The most ideal time to visit Ha Giang is from October to December, when the buckwheat flowers paint the entire rocky plateau in shades of pink and purple. This is also when the Buckwheat Flower Festival takes place—one of the most iconic cultural events in the Northeast.
From February to March, Ha Giang transforms into a vibrant spring landscape with blooming plum, peach, and kapok flowers covering the mountains. April is known for the Khau Vai Love Market, a unique traditional festival of the H’Mong people.

September to early October is the golden season in Hoang Su Phi, when the terraced rice fields turn yellow—perfect for photography lovers.
In contrast, it’s best to avoid July–August, as heavy rains may cause slippery roads and landslides, making trekking less safe.

The average temperature throughout the year ranges from 12°C to 24°C. If you enjoy cold, quiet atmospheres, January–February (around 10°C) is ideal.
During peak seasons (October–December and February–March), it’s recommended to book accommodations and services 2–4 weeks in advance to avoid fully booked situations.
Note: Weather conditions and traditional festivals don’t change much year to year, but you should still check local updates before starting your trip for the most accurate itinerary.
